Jazz Ensemble is a credited course (1 credit for the full year) that focuses on applied
music (playing) to explore the wonderful history and living traditions of jazz music.
In addition to playing in the band students will experience combo playing and
improvisation. We will also spend time each week studying all the many things that
complement playing and complete our knowledge of jazz: listening, theory, history,
analysis, transcription, and arranging.

FRIDAY, MAR 28 – ÂÌñÉçÇø Jazz Ensemble: Groovin’ at Gracie’s, Gracie’s Café, Wallace McCain Student Centre, 9:00 p.m.
Auditions Fall 2024
An audition rehearsal will be held for all interested players on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 6:00-8:30pm, in the Band Room of the Conservatory (CONS 004).

All winds (woodwinds, brass) and rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, drums) should prepare the following three tunes:
1. "Straight No Chaser" by Thelonious Monk in F Major
2. "Someday My Prince Will Come" by Larry Morey in Bb Major
3. "Blue Bossa" by Kenny Durham in C minor
We will play through all tunes together, giving everyone a chance to improvise solos on these tunes to the best of their ability.
