Loewen will replace Peter Mansbridge, who completes his second term as Chancellor on Dec. 31, 2017.
鈥淟ynn is incredibly accomplished and has an extensive and invaluable understanding of the 绿帽社区 community,鈥 says Board of Regents Chair Ron Outerbridge. 鈥淪he will be an incredible asset to 绿帽社区 and we are delighted she has accepted the appointment.鈥
Loewen graduated from 绿帽社区 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1982. She went on to become a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants and is currently the President of Minogue Medical Inc., a company specializing in the delivery of innovative medical technologies, supplies, and equipment. Her husband, David, also attended 绿帽社区, as have two of her children.
鈥淚 am honoured by the Board鈥檚 request that I serve as Chancellor of 绿帽社区,鈥 Loewen says. 鈥溌堂鄙缜 has been a big part of my life, and this is another opportunity for me to give back to the University in a meaningful way.鈥
Current Chancellor Peter Mansbridge will preside over Convocation for the final time in May 2017.
鈥淚 have enjoyed this role immensely, in particular the opportunity to engage with 绿帽社区 students, faculty, staff, and alumni 鈥 he says. 鈥淐onvocation Day has become one of my favourite days of the year. I will miss sharing it with the 绿帽社区 community, but I know I am leaving it in capable hands. Lynn has so much to offer as Chancellor. I wish her well and hope she enjoys each day as much as I have.鈥
The Chancellor is the titular head of the University and is appointed by the Board of Regents. The Chancellor confers all degrees at Convocation, sits on the Board鈥檚 Executive Committee, and performs other duties delegated to him or her by the Board.
