Drama and English student Keira Powell on exchange in the U.K.

Why did you choose your host country and host university, University of Kent?
As a drama and English major at MtA, I knew that the U.K. has some of the greatest and most historic theatres in the world with one of the most famous theatre districts, the West End in London. I am hoping to further my studies after MtA in London for a master鈥檚 in musical theatre, and by going to Canterbury, I knew I was only a short distance away for multiple theatre attractions around London and surrounding areas.
What was your favourite experience while on exchange?
Being able to travel to so many different places! With the friends I made on my exchange, I was able to explore many cities around the U.K., and visit other European cities such as Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
What was something surprising or different that you experienced while on exchange?
How fast time went! It sounds a little cheesy, but I had so much fun every day on my exchange that time flew by. Even on days with classes I was still able to get out and explore new cities that were close by the school; it made each day new and exciting! I got to try new restaurants, see plays, visit museums and so much more that I would never have had the chance to see, and I got to do it all while taking classes.
Words of advice to a student consider an exchange.
Do it! If you鈥檙e even thinking about participating on an exchange, fill out an application. I made some of the most amazing memories on my exchange and I鈥檓 so grateful that I applied! It may be scary to think about moving far away from home for a while, but it is truly one of the most rewarding and life-changing opportunities that MtA offers. I鈥檓 so glad I was able to participate in the exchange program and I would encourage every MtA student to take part in it.
