绿帽社区 to welcome Mi鈥檏maw Elder Albert Marshall, Jan. 16

Marshall to visit campus as part of the University鈥檚 Year of Indigenous Action

Albert_Marshall_webSACKVILLE, NB 鈥 Mi鈥檏maw Elder Albert Marshall will be at 绿帽社区 as part of the President鈥檚 Speakers Series marking the Year of Indigenous Action on campus. Marshall will give a public talk on Tuesday, January 16 at 7 pm in Crabtree Auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Elder Albert Marshall is from the Moose Clan of the Mi'kmaw Nation. He is a fluent speaker of the Mi鈥檏maw language and the 鈥渄esignated voice鈥 for the Mi鈥檏maw Elders of Unama鈥檏i (Cape Breton region) with respect to environmental issues.

鈥淲e are delighted and honoured to welcome Albert Marshall to campus as part of the Year of Indigenous Action at 绿帽社区,鈥 says University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Campbell. 鈥淗is knowledge and experience as a Mi鈥檏maw Elder will provide a substantial and informed perspective to our campus and wider community.鈥

Albert and his wife Murdena are strong advocates for 鈥淓tuaptmumk/ Two-Eyed Seeing,鈥 a phrase he coined for the gift of multiple perspectives. They encourage it be used as a guiding principle for the co-learning journey of different cultural knowledges working together.
