Digital Skills Fall Workshop Series launches at 绿帽社区 聽
Following the successful summer launch of the Digital Skills Series at 绿帽社区, the Digital Skills Fall Workshop Series kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 25 with six workshops planned throughout the fall with a mix of online and in-person delivery.
Director of Extended Learning Dr. Beth Jewett says the Digital Skills workshops in the summer were well received by the entire community.
鈥淲e saw good participation in our summer session and look forward to even more engagement with the fall series, which focuses on a variety of competencies including social media and marketing, international business negotiations, Excel, and infographics and data visualization.鈥
Registration for the courses is available on Experience MtA. 绿帽社区 students, faculty, staff, and alumni with existing Experience MtA user accounts can register with their user account and all others can register for the courses as a guest. Questions can be directed to student-skills@mta.ca.
The fall series includes:
Social Media and Marketing
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 25, 5-8 p.m.

Social media marketing is constantly changing and can be very difficult to manage. This workshop aims to simplify the process of developing a social media marketing campaign. The focus of this workshop will be on developing a social media strategy from scratch that can be used to create content for multiple channels. This in-person workshop will involve groupwork, presentations and a focus on personal skills development in social media marketing. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for this workshop.
International Business Negotiations: An Engaging Game for Cross-Cultural Success
Date: Friday, Oct. 27, 12-5 p.m. & Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

In this online workshop, participants will engage in a dynamic role-play simulation to negotiate an international contract, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in the intricacies of international business negotiation. By representing companies from two distinct national cultures, participants will navigate the complexities of negotiating a strategic alliance, balancing the imperative to maximize financial performance with the need to honour cultural norms and values. Throughout the course, participants will delve into various negotiation strategies, develop effective prenegotiation preparation techniques, master the art of team organization for negotiations, and adeptly manage the negotiation process itself. Detailed feedback reports will be provided to each team, enabling them to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement in their negotiation skills. This course places a strong emphasis on fostering analytical thinking and cultivating essential soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of how these skills intertwine with successful international business negotiation, equipping them with a well-rounded toolkit for future negotiations in the global marketplace.
Exploring Excel 1: Basic Excel

Exploring Excel 2: Charts and Data Visualization

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create charts, label and modify axes, add data labels, and modify charts for clearer communication.
Exploring Excel 3: Functions

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn about entering formulas in Excel, the differences between indirect and absolute addresses, removing duplicates, and using the vlookup formula.
Infographics and Data Visualization

A well-designed infographic does more than share information 鈥 it tells a story, it engages viewers, and it encourages them to take action. This presentation focuses on how to create compelling data visualizations using Piktochart, a web-based tool. Examples are drawn from a Canadian infographics competition, which challenged students and seasoned professionals to create infographics using data related to sustainable development.
