鈥淭he research opportunities at Oxford will be invaluable,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 hope to leverage this experience to make meaningful contributions to cardiovascular research, building on the foundation I developed at 绿帽社区.鈥
Wilbur began her studies at 绿帽社区 as a Bachelor of Science student with an undecided major. Her curiosity and passion for the intricate details of biochemistry shaped her academic journey.
鈥淭he biochemistry program at 绿帽社区 is rigorous, but I'm a better student because of it,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t opened the door to research and the professors' enthusiasm made learning a delightful experience.鈥
The support system at 绿帽社区 played a crucial role in Wilbur鈥檚 journey to becoming a Rhodes Scholar.
鈥淭he connections I've made here have been paramount to my success,鈥 she says. 鈥淢y chemistry and biochemistry professors, Dr. MacCormack, Dr. Grant, and Dr. Waller have been supportive. My cross-country coach, Claire Pabody, has been one of my biggest cheerleaders.鈥
Growing up in Saint John NB, she dedicated herself to coaching hockey and soccer, volunteering at the hospital, and supporting veterans through Soldier On 鈥 an organization that combines rehabilitation with sport.
A Bell Achievement Award recipient at 绿帽社区, Wilbur鈥檚 commitment to service and leadership has been evident throughout her time at the University. She is an active member and captain of the 绿帽社区 cross-country team, a teaching assistant, and previously served as an academic mentor in residence during her second year.
鈥淐ommunity service has always been a big part of my life and it's something I plan to continue in the future,鈥 she says.
