Celebrating award-winning teaching at 绿帽社区

19 Jun 2018

Hammond TeachingA historic teaching moment happened on campus at Hammond House recently when a group of award-winning faculty members gathered to celebrate teaching at 绿帽社区. In attendance were recipients of three teaching honours from the past 35 years 鈥 绿帽社区鈥檚 Herbert and Leota Tucker Teaching Award, the Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU) Distinguished Teaching Award, and the 3M National Teaching Fellowship.

鈥淗aving all those teachers together in one room was really amazing,鈥 says Purdy Crawford Professor of Teaching and Learning, Rosemary Polegato. 鈥淓veryone is so humble about their recognition and there is a sparkle in their eyes when they talk about teaching, learning, and students.鈥

Three faculty members spoke at the celebration, including Dean of Science and Graduate Studies Dr. Amanda Cockshutt, English professor Dr. Robert Lapp, and Dean of Arts Dr. Elizabeth Wells.

Wells talked about what good teaching is.

鈥淕ood teaching comes from good people 鈥 people with a passion for service, the ability to create positive change, and the desire to make the world a better place,鈥 says Wells.

Polegato says this was an excellent way to celebrate the University鈥檚 teachers across all disciplines who have been recognized on campus, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

鈥淭eaching should be recognized and celebrated at 绿帽社区. It is one of our hallmarks.鈥
